Kyle McMillin Master Built 50s Stratocaster Heavy Relic
Master Builder Kyle McMillin's interpretation of the classic '50s Stratocaster delivers an instrument steeped in vintage authenticity and contemporary excellence. The Heavy Relic finish in Black over Violin Burst—finished in traditional nitrocellulose lacquer—showcases the visual character of a guitar with genuine road history, its layered patina suggesting years of performance. This Master Built creation honors the tonal and ergonomic standards that established the Stratocaster as an icon, while the meticulous aging process and premium construction ensure an instrument that performs as impressively as it appears. A masterwork for discerning players who demand both historical integrity and uncompromising quality.
A premium 2-piece ash body forms the sonic foundation, engineered to deliver the bright, articulate response and open sustain that defined Fender's legendary tonal signature. The anodized gold aluminum pickguard offers refined visual contrast against the aged finish, its deliberately worn surface authentically documenting the instrument's storied performance history. This combination of tonal wood selection, ergonomic design, and hardware finishing creates an instrument that performs with the clarity and responsiveness expected of Master Built instrument.
Built from 1-piece roasted Birdseye Maple with thin-skin nitro finish, the neck features a Large "C" profile that balances comfort with control. The 12-inch radius fingerboard, 6100 jumbo frets, and vintage-spec bone nut create an instrument optimized for expressive playing, smooth bending, and precise intonation across the entire range.
Hand-wound Custom Shop '50s Single-Coil pickups deliver the balanced tonal signature that established the Stratocaster's sonic identity. The reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup eliminates unwanted noise in the 2 and 4 positions while preserving authentic vintage response.

Kyle McMillin brings 15 years of musical instrument experience to the Fender Custom Shop. A loyal Fender employee for 15 years, McMillin just finished a five-year apprenticeship under Principal Master Builder Yuriy Shishkov — working on nearly 1,000 guitars with the esteemed builder. McMillin now joins a team of the world’s finest guitar builders as a Master Builder at the Fender Custom Shop.
